Bio

Jon Shearin received his Bachelors of Art & Design from North Carolina State University’s College of Design in Raleigh, NC. After working at McConnell Studios, a design/build firm in Raleigh, for 4 years, he studied in the Core Fellowship Program at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC, where he focused on iron and metalwork. From there he went on to head the Iron Department at Penland for the next 3 years. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and is the lead fabricator for artist Randy Polumbo at Plant NYC in lower Manhattan.

I specialize in custom designed, forged, and fabricated ornamental metalwork for high-end residential and retail establishments across the country as well as multiple lines of men's accessories, glassblowing tools, and home goods.

Recent exhibitions include Forged, Torpedo Art Center, Alexandria, VA,  Art on Main Street Public Art Project, Chattanooga, TN, and Iron 2010,The National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis, TN: as well as being a featured demonstrator at the Fire on the Mountain Blacksmithing Festival, Spruce Pine, NC. His work has been featured in the Schiffer books From Fire to Form: Sculpture from the Modern Blacksmith & Metalsmith and Ironwork Today III & IV. His public art piece entitled “Composite Wing” was recently purchased by the city of Chattanooga for their permanent collection.
